He made these remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 2025 National Polio Eradication Campaign on Sunday. In his speech, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to global partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Saudi Arabia, and others, for their support in the fight against polio. He said that by the grace of Allah, the 2025 polio campaign has begun, and through this, millions of children across Pakistan will be vaccinated, protecting them from the disease. He mentioned that the polio workers are working tirelessly, and during this campaign, they will reach every corner of the country, including remote areas and villages, to carry out this crucial national duty. The Prime Minister further stated that last year, approximately 77 polio cases were reported in the country, marking a significant challenge and setback in the fight against polio. He noted that, so far, only one case has been recorded in January this year, though he hoped it would have been avoided. He stressed that, InshaAllah, Pakistan will eliminate polio at any cost. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif mentioned that the government is in contact with neighboring Afghanistan regarding polio eradication and expressed hope that, through mutual cooperation, polio will also be eradicated in Afghanistan. He again thanked global partners such as WHO, UNICEF, Saudi Arabia, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for their support and said that the joint efforts of all partners are crucial for eradicating polio. He reaffirmed that through coordinated strategies and collective efforts, Pakistan can be free of polio. The Prime Minister highlighted that the polio eradication campaign is safeguarding the future of children, and reiterated his commitment to continue efforts until polio is completely eradicated from the country. He confirmed that the first polio campaign of the year is starting, and during this campaign, polio drops will be administered to millions of children under the age of five, helping protect them from the disease. During the campaign, polio workers will be going to remote and challenging areas, towns, and cities to administer the drops and fulfill this national responsibility.
